# Pipe flow calculators

## Heat power calculator

#### Calculator Description

Heat power calculator can be used for calculation of thermal energy for known flow rate and vice versa. For calculated flow rate velocity and diameter are calculated also.

• Calculate:

• Heat power
• Flow rate
• Pipe diameter
• Input:

• Fluid temperatures
• Flow Velocity
• Specific heat

#### Calculator Features

• Select exchanger type between heater and chiller

Heat power calculator can be used for heated or chilled fluid flow rate calculation when power of heat exchanger - heater or chiller is known and for known temperatures on inlet and outlet of exchanger. Flow rate is converted from volumetric to weight for known fluid density.

Calculator can be used for hot water boilers, water and air heat exchangers, hot water radiators, water chillers, air heaters and other heat power generation and consumption units.

If you would like to use the calculator, but actually can't see the blue CALCULATOR button in the upper left part of the page than please read instructions.

Q: Calculate heat power generated in heat exchanger that has flow rate of 2 kg/s. Temperature in front and after the exchanger is 343 K and 363 K. Heated medium is water. Connecting pipe diameter is 60 mm

A: Calculation setup:
Input values:
w = 2 kg/s
D = 60 mm
rho = 1000 kg/m3
c = 4186 J/kgK
T1 = 343 K
T2 = 363 K

Q: Calculate flow rate of water in heat exchanger. Heat power that is water collecting in heat exchanger is 2000 kW. Temperature in front and after the exchanger is 70OC K and 90OC. Connecting pipe diameter is 150 mm

A: Calculation setup:
Input values:
P = 2000 kW
D = 150 mm
rho = 1000 kg/m3
c = 4186 J/kgK
T1 = 70OC
T2 = 90OC

Q: Calculate flow rate of water in chiller heat exchanger. Heat power that is water collecting in exchanger is 2000 kW. Temperature in front and after the exchanger is 12OC K and 7OC. Calculate connecting pipe diameter, for given flow velocity of 1 m/s

A: Calculation setup:
Input values:
V = 1 m/s
P = 2000 kW
rho = 1000 kg/m3
c = 4186 J/kgK
T1 = 12OC
deltaT = 5OC
